PPSC Assistant (BS-16) Test: Syllabus, Pattern and How to Prepare

What the official PPSC Assistant (BS-16) syllabus says, how the 100-mark General Ability paper works, and a focused way to prepare each subject.

Assistant (BS-16) is one of the most sought-after PPSC posts for graduates, and competition is usually intense. The written test decides who reaches the interview, so a methodical approach to it pays off.

What the official syllabus says

In PPSC Advertisement No. 51/2025 (Assistant, Board of Revenue Punjab / PDMA, Case No. 65-RG/2025), the written test is described as:

One Paper MCQs Type General Ability Written Test of 100 marks and 90 minutes duration comprising questions relating to General Knowledge, Pakistan Studies, Current Affairs, Islamic Studies (General Knowledge for Non-Muslim Candidates), Geography, Basic Mathematics, English, Urdu, Every-day Science, & Basic Computer Studies.

The required qualification for that advertisement was a second-division Bachelor’s degree from an HEC-recognized university. See our PPSC Assistant exam page for the source link.

Remember that each advertisement carries its own syllabus. Assistant posts in other departments may differ, so always read the syllabus attached to your case number on the PPSC website.

How this differs from a Junior Clerk paper

The subject list is almost identical to the Junior Clerk General Ability paper. The difference is the competition: because Assistant is a higher grade and attracts many graduates, the marks needed to stand out are usually higher. You should aim not just to pass, but to score well across every subject.

Subject-by-subject focus

Pakistan Studies and Current Affairs. Expect questions on constitutional history and recent amendments. For example, the 27th Amendment (November 2025) created the Federal Constitutional Court and the post of Chief of Defence Forces. Combine a solid timeline of 1906–1973 with regular reading of current events.

General Knowledge and Geography. International organizations and their headquarters, capitals and currencies, world geography, and Pakistan’s mountains, rivers and dams.

Islamic Studies. Quran basics, Seerah, the Rightly Guided Caliphs, Hadith collections and common terms such as Ijma and Qiyas.

English and Urdu. Vocabulary-heavy questions are answered in seconds, which frees time for maths. Revise synonyms, antonyms, idioms, one-word substitutions, and Urdu proverbs and idioms.

Basic Mathematics. Percentages, ratios, averages, ages, simple interest, and time and distance. Learn one reliable method for each type and practise until it is quick.

Everyday Science and Computer. Short factual questions: vitamins, units and instruments, common chemicals, MS Office shortcuts and computer abbreviations.

A four-week sprint (if your test is close)

Week Focus
1 Pakistan Studies, Islamic Studies, English vocabulary; one diagnostic mock test
2 General Knowledge, Geography, Mathematics methods; timed 25-question sets
3 Urdu, Everyday Science, Computer, Current Affairs; first full mock
4 Two full mocks, mistakes-list revision, no new topics in the last three days

If you have more time, follow our 60-day plan instead.
